Yeuk Yeuk, Elhzo’s debut record, is an excursion between Jazz, Afro-Jazz and World Music.

Recorded between Senegal and Italy, it mashes together Griot and European Jazz cultures. The percussive rhythm showcased by Elhzo’s flowing drumming blends in with a complex melodic section, highlighted by lush trumpets in constant dialogue with the counterpoint created by the tight weave of guitars and voices.

Lyrically, Yeuk Yeuk itself is an ode to identity and acceptance. Its themes are ispired by David Diop and the Negritude poetry, and dwelve in pride for one’s roots and a renewed sense of belonging.
